Our History
Today there are over 15,000 Southeast Asian (SEA) refugees living in
Milwaukee. Members of the Hmong community contributed to the American effort in
Vietnam, and were force to flee their homeland with the communist takeover of
Laos. This community, with its unique history and culture, offers an opportunity
for companies to enrich and diversify their staff.
Our Mission
The Hmong-American Friendship Association was established in 1983 as a social
service and cultural agency serving families. Our mission is to assist refugee
families in becoming self-sufficient and productive members of the larger
community.
We offer over seventeen different programs addressing the housing,
employment, and social support needs of the Southeast Asian refugee community,
while working to preserve the best aspects of the indigenous culture.
Our Goal
The goal of our Job Placement Program is to assist members of the Southeast
Asian community in securing and retaining viable employment opportunities.
