Homebuyer Program was established in 1994 to enhance the quality of life for Southeast Asians in the greater Milwaukee area.

Our mission: To help Southeast Asian families achieve their dream of homeownership by assessing the needs of each family and assisting them in developing a course of action.

We do this by providing:

    • Translation and interpretation
    • Educational seminars / workshops explaining the homeownership process
    • Individual counseling on financial planning
    • Mortgage pre-qualification
    • Access to lending institutions and private or public grants
    • Assistance in processing loan applications, scheduling home inspections, and acquiring legal reports

Homeowner Seminars

Your home is one of the most important and expensive investments you will make. For many people, the legal process can be confusing. Our experienced Homebuyer Counselor can explain this process to you. We can also determine if you will qualify for a mortgage, how much house you can afford, and if you are eligible for grants.

Attend a seminar to learn about the process of buying a home, and find out what you need to do to make it a success!

Seminars are offered once a month. Call our Homebuyer Counselor to sign up.

Grants

Hmong American Friendship Association, Inc. has established relationships with private and public funding sources which provide financial assistance to qualified first time homebuyers. Amounts vary from $2,000 to $2,500. Talk to our Homebuyer Counselor to find out if you are eligible.

The Homeownership Process

    1. Attend a Homeownership Seminar
Find out how to become a homeowner

    2. Meet with Counselor
Discuss your financial situation with our experienced Homebuyer Counselor to find out if you qualify for homeownership.

    3. Obtain Loan Pre-qualification
Your counselor will determine if you can secure a home mortgage and how much house you can afford.

    4. Look for a Home
Your counselor can introduce you to a qualified real estate broker.

    5. Make an Offer
Your counselor will assist you in completing the legal forms and scheduling a home inspection.

    6. Process your Loan & Close
Your counselor will set up an appointment with a loan officer and assist you in completing the legal forms

Avoid making some of these common mistakes:

    Credit rating:
Many first time homebuyers do not realize how credit ratings influence the home buying process. Our Homebuyer Counselor can obtain a formal credit report and help you develop a financial plan to make your dream of homeownership a reality.

    Pre-qualification
Many first-time homebuyers go through the entire process only to be turned down for a mortgage. Don’t make this mistake! Talk to our Homebuyer Counselor about getting pre-qualified for a home loan.

    Home Inspection
Many problems — electrical, plumbing, foundation, roofing, hazardous materials — are not obvious to the buyer. Needed repairs and upgrades should be considered in the Offer to Purchase. A professional home inspector can make you aware of any serious problems.
